YOUR BIGGEST ENTRY POINT

Why Fit Roller Shutters to Sliding Doors

Sliding glass doors are the weakest security point on most homes. Wide, made of glass, and the standard latch can be forced.

When closed, the interlocking slats form a solid barrier across the entire opening. The motor’s internal brake holds it in place. Nobody can see in, nobody can get in. On top of security, door shutters block heat, reduce noise, and give you privacy over the largest glass surface in your home.

The SM Difference

DOOR TYPES WE COVER

Roller Shutters for Sliding, Bi-Fold and French Doors

Sliding glass doors

Most common door we fit. Shutter mounts above the frame and covers both panels in one go. Electric operation handles the weight.

Bi-fold doors

Wide openings that fold back. Shutter covers the full span when closed. Heavier-duty axles and reinforced guide rails for wider openings.

French doors

Double-hinged, open outward or inward. Shutter mounts externally above and doesn’t interfere with the door swing.

Standard entry doors

Single or double hinged. Shutter adds a security and weather barrier without changing the door itself.

Sliding Door Roller Shutters for Home Security

PHYSICAL BARRIER

The aluminium slats interlock into a rigid panel across the full opening. The motor’s internal brake prevents it from being forced open. No external handle, no keyhole, no access point. When closed, nobody can see through to check if you’re home. Roller shutters on sliding doors are one of the most effective deterrents for break-ins at the back of the house.

Sliding Door Roller Shutters for Heat, Noise and Privacy

MORE THAN JUST SECURITY

Sliding doors are the largest glass surface in most homes. That means the most heat gain in summer, the most heat loss in winter, and the most noise transmission from outside. Closed shutters block sun before it hits the glass, trap warmth inside in winter, and dampen outside noise through the sealed air pocket. For a single upgrade that handles all three, shutters on your sliding door give the biggest return.

“I recently had SM Roller Shutters install 16 shutters for my home. The whole process was smooth, neat, tidy, and the pricing was competitive. David was a pleasure to deal with, very accommodating and professional.”

CUSTOM TO YOUR OPENING

Every door shutter is custom-prepared in our workshop. 42mm foam-filled aluminium slats with a maximum recommended width of 2800mm, maximum height 2600mm, and maximum area 8m². Electric Roller Shutters for Sliding Doors

MOTOR OPTIONS

Door shutters are heavier than window shutters, so electric operation is the obvious choice. SM motors are standard. Elero motors (+$265) for quieter operation with a noiseless soft brake. Smart WiFi available for scheduling and phone control. The motor’s internal brake holds the shutter when closed, adding security that manual operation can’t match.

SLIDING DOOR ROLLER SHUTTERS FAQ

Common questions about sliding door roller shutters.

Yes. Sliding doors are among the most frequently requested openings we fit. The shutter mounts above the door frame in a compact headbox and rolls down in guide rails to cover the full width. Electric operation is standard because door shutters are heavier than window shutters. See our installation process for the four steps.

The aluminium slats interlock into a rigid panel that covers the entire door opening. The motor’s internal brake prevents the shutter from being lifted or forced from outside. There’s no external handle, no keyhole, and no access point. See our security shutters page for more.

Yes. When the shutter is raised, it retracts fully into the headbox assembly above the frame. Your sliding door opens, closes, and locks exactly as it did before. The shutter only covers the door when you choose to lower it.

The 42mm foam-filled aluminium slats have a maximum recommended width of 2800mm, height 2600mm, and area 8m². For wider openings, we use heavier-duty axles and reinforced guide rails, or split into two shutters side by side. See our custom shutters page for non-standard sizing.

Sliding door shutters start from $1,025 for standard openings. Price depends on width, height, motor choice, and storey level. Every quote is confirmed in writing. See our pricing guide for the full breakdown.

Yes. For bi-fold doors, the shutter covers the full span when closed and retracts into the headbox when raised, leaving the door free to fold open completely. For French doors, the shutter mounts externally above the frame and doesn’t interfere with the door swing. See our patio shutters page for outdoor door applications.
