How Long Roller Shutter Installation Takes
INSTALLATION TIMELINE
The typical roller shutter installation timeline is 4 to 6 weeks from quote approval to install day. The on-site measure and quote happen within the first week. Custom preparation requires a 4 to 6 week lead time. Installation is typically completed in a single day, with electrical wiring done same day or the following day.

ON THE DAY
What to Expect on Roller Shutter Installation Day
On roller shutter installation day, our crew arrives in the morning with your shutters pre-packed and labelled. They mount brackets and headboxes first, then fit guide rails and hang the shutters. Each one is positioned, levelled, and secured. No jackhammering, no cutting into walls, no dust cloud. For a full-home job of 10 to 16 shutters, expect one full day. Smaller jobs of 3 to 5 can be done in a few hours.
WALL TYPES WE INSTALL ON
Roller Shutter Installation on Brick, Render and Weatherboard
Rendered walls give the most precise fit with guide rails sitting flush against the surface for virtually complete light blockout. Brick is the most common wall type in Melbourne and guide rails fix directly to mortar joints with masonry anchors. Weatherboard and cladding homes need custom packers behind the guide rails to bridge the cladding profile and create a solid mount. Hebel and lightweight panels need specific fixings for the shutter weight. We assess wall type, condition, and load capacity during the free measure.

Why SM Roller Shutters Don't Use Subcontractors
IN-HOUSE INSTALLATION
Every roller shutter installation is handled by our own crew, not subcontractors. They’re the same team on every job. The people who prepared your shutters in the workshop are the people who fit them at your home. If something needs adjusting during the install, our crew can make decisions because they know the product and the preparation behind every shutter. No phone calls to a head office, no waiting for approval. The only external trade is licensed electricians for wiring, coordinated by our team and included in your quote.
LICENSED ELECTRICAL WORK
Roller Shutter Electrical Wiring and Certificate of Safety
Every electric roller shutter requires wiring to a dedicated power supply. Licensed electricians are coordinated for every install. Cables are chased into the wall for a concealed, flush finish. Where chasing isn’t possible, conduits are used. You receive a Certificate of Electrical Safety when the job is done. The electrical work is warranted for 12 months.

POST-INSTALLATION CARE
Roller Shutter Maintenance After Installation
After roller shutter installation, maintenance is minimal. Wipe slats with mild detergent quarterly. Flush guide rails with a low-pressure hose. Avoid high-pressure washing on the headbox. The motor is hermetically sealed and doesn’t need servicing. Individual slats can be replaced without removing the whole shutter. Motors swapped on-site in about 45 minutes.
Roller Shutter Warranty After Installation
WARRANTY AND SUPPORT
10 years on shutter slats. 5 years on SM and Elero motors. 12 months on electrical components and workmanship. If a motor fails within warranty, we replace it on-site within 3 business days at no charge. You work directly with the team that installed your shutters. No third parties, no call centres.

ROLLER SHUTTER INSTALLATION FAQ
Common questions about roller shutter installation.
How long does installation take from start to finish?
The full roller shutter installation timeline is 4 to 6 weeks from first contact to installed shutters. The on-site measure and quote happen within the first week. Custom preparation takes the remaining lead time. Installation day itself is typically completed in a single day. Contact us to get started.
Do I need to be home during installation?
Yes. Our crew needs access to the outside of your home for mounting and access inside for testing each shutter and checking electrical connections. We confirm the date and provide a morning arrival time.
Is installation noisy or messy?
Some drilling when mounting the headbox and guide rails to your exterior wall. Noise is comparable to hanging heavy shelving. No jackhammering, no internal wall cutting. We clean up and take all packaging. See our gallery for finished installs.
Can roller shutters be installed on any home?
Most homes. We install on brick, render, weatherboard, cladding, and Hebel. Each wall type has a different mounting approach. We assess during the free measure.
Does SM use subcontractors?
No. Our roller shutter installation crew is in-house and works for us full-time. They’re the same team on every job. The only external trade is licensed electricians. See the SM difference.
What is included in the installation price?
Everything. 42mm aluminium shutters, custom preparation, installation, licensed electrical, Certificate of Electrical Safety, and up to 10-year warranty. See our pricing page.
