Why Buy Australian-Made Roller Shutters

Imported shutters are built for a different climate and backed by a company you’ve never spoken to. Australian roller shutters handle local UV, temperature extremes, and weather patterns that imported products simply aren’t designed for.

When you call about a warranty issue, you’re speaking to the same team that prepared and installed your shutters. No offshore call centres, no third-party warranty handlers. If a motor needs replacing, the same crew shows up within three business days.

Roller Shutters Built for Australian Weather

DESIGNED FOR THIS CLIMATE

The product specified is 42mm foam-filled aluminium slats. Australian made. Double-coated PU/PA painted finish with lacquer for UV stability. Foam-filled for insulation. Guide rails rated up to 125km/h winds at narrower widths. 17 colours that hold their colour year after year.

Melbourne’s UV, rain, and wind don’t degrade Australian roller shutters. The foam core doesn’t absorb water, so there’s no swelling or moisture damage even after years of exposure to Melbourne’s unpredictable storms and temperature swings.

OUR MELBOURNE WORKSHOP

SM Roller Shutters Melbourne Workshop

Every shutter is custom-prepared. Slats precision-cut to your window width, headboxes assembled, guide rails prepared, motors fitted and tested. Specifications transfer from the on-site measure directly to the workshop.

When the crew arrives at your home, components align precisely on first installation. Nothing arrives pre-made from overseas. Every Australian roller shutter leaves the workshop ready for a precise fit. Every shutter leaves the workshop tested and labelled for the exact window it was measured for. We source exclusively Australian-made components.

“Davids team is A1, Sky is a great fellow he came for our installation the work was carried out in a neat and clean manner no shortcuts, were punctual and good quality material was used.”

Australian Roller Shutters Quality and Certifications

STANDARDS AND SAFETY

All electrical work is completed by licensed electricians with a Certificate of Electrical Safety issued on every job. Every component is checked before leaving the workshop. The same team that prepared your Australian roller shutters installs and handles warranty.

Warranty coverage: 10 years on slats, 5 years on SM and Elero motors, 12 months on electrical components and workmanship. If a motor fails within warranty, we replace it on-site within 3 business days at no charge. The swap takes about 45 minutes.

Supporting Local Melbourne Roller Shutter Jobs

SUPPORTING LOCAL

Local team. Workshop crew, install team, and office are all Melbourne-based. When you choose Australian roller shutters from SM, you deal with the same people from first call to finished job and every warranty visit after that.

Melbourne workshop. Slats precision-cut, headboxes assembled, shutters packed at our workshop. Not shipped from an overseas factory. Not trimmed on your driveway.

Local warranty. Same team handles everything. No third parties, no offshore support lines, no waiting for parts from overseas. Motor replaced within 3 business days.

Australian vs Imported Roller Shutters Compared

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE

Imported shutters can be cheaper upfront. The savings come from thinner aluminium, lower-grade paint finishes that fade or flake faster, generic sizing that doesn’t fit as precisely, and motors without local warranty support. If a motor fails in year two, your warranty claim goes through an overseas supplier you’ve never dealt with.

Australian roller shutters represent a higher investment but fit better, lasts longer, and comes with direct local support from the team that prepared them. Most homeowners who’ve had imported shutters replaced end up spending more in total than if they’d gone Australian from the start.

SM and Elero Motors for Australian Roller Shutters

MOTOR OPTIONS

SM tubular motors are standard on every shutter. Tested and backed by us with a 5-year warranty. German-engineered Elero motors are available for $265 more per shutter. Noticeably quieter at 14 RPM with a noiseless soft brake.

Elero carries their own manufacturer warranty on top of ours. Both options are hermetically sealed within the drive axle. No servicing needed under normal use. Your quote shows both motor options per window so you can compare.

AUSTRALIAN ROLLER SHUTTERS FAQ

Common questions about Australian roller shutters.

Yes. 42mm foam-filled aluminium slats, manufactured in Australia. Precision roll-formed aluminium alloy with CFC-free polyurethane foam fill. Every shutter is custom-prepared in our Melbourne workshop to your precise window specifications. We source exclusively Australian-made components. See our aluminium shutters page for full product specifications.

Three reasons. First, the materials are designed for Australian conditions. The aluminium alloy, paint finish, and foam fill are all rated for local UV levels, temperature extremes, and weather patterns. Imported shutters built for European or Asian climates aren’t designed for Melbourne’s UV or heat. Second, local warranty support means you call the same team that prepared and installed your shutters. Third, your money supports Melbourne jobs and local industry.

Sometimes upfront, but the savings come from somewhere. Imported shutters often use thinner aluminium, lower-grade paint finishes that fade faster, generic sizing that doesn’t fit as precisely, and motors without local warranty support. Australian-made shutters fit better, last longer, and come with direct support from the team that prepared them. When you factor in longevity and after-sales, the cost difference narrows. See our pricing page for what Australian-made actually costs.

10 years on shutter slats, 5 years on both SM and Elero motors, 12 months on electrical components and workmanship. If a motor fails within warranty, we replace it on-site within 3 business days at no charge. The swap takes about 45 minutes. You deal directly with the original installation team. See about SM for how we handle warranty and after-sales.

Last updated: 30 July 2026

TERMS AND CONDITIONS (SUPPLY, INSTALLATION, REPAIRS)

These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) apply to all quotes, orders, supply, installation, repairs, and services provided by SM Roller Shutters to you (“you”, “customer”). If there is any inconsistency between these Terms and a written quote or invoice, the quote or invoice will apply to the extent of the inconsistency.

1. DEFINITIONS. “Goods” means roller shutters and any related parts, accessories, remotes, controls, and materials we supply. “Services” means measuring, quoting, custom preparation, installation, electrical work (where included), repairs, and any related labour. “Work” starts when we order materials, commence custom preparation, schedule installation resources, or otherwise begin preparation for your job.

2. QUOTES AND ACCEPTANCE. Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date issued unless stated otherwise in writing. A quote is accepted when you confirm acceptance in writing (including SMS or email) or pay a deposit. Quotes are based on conditions reasonably observed at the time of quoting. If conditions differ, a variation may be required. If there is an obvious error in a quote, we may correct it before installation begins.

3. DEPOSITS AND PAYMENTS. A deposit of 30% is required to place an order (unless stated otherwise on your invoice). Your deposit covers admin, scheduling, ordering materials, and preparation work. The remaining balance is due on completion of installation. If payment is overdue, we may pause work, reschedule, and recover reasonable costs. Payment is accepted by the methods stated on your invoice.

4. VARIATIONS AND ADDITIONAL WORK. Changes requested after accepting the quote will require a written variation for your approval and may affect price and timeline. Extra work outside the agreed scope will be discussed and approved before proceeding. If the work area is not clear on arrival, additional charges may apply — labour charged at $100/hour or $50/shutter depending on what is required.

5. SCHEDULING AND DELAYS. All timeframes are estimates only and may vary due to supplier delays, material availability, workload, weather, or site conditions. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for penalties or indirect losses caused by delays.

6. SITE ACCESS AND CUSTOMER RESPONSIBILITIES. You agree to provide safe, clear access to work areas and power where required; remove obstacles, furniture, blinds, and fragile items; secure pets and children; ensure someone over 18 is on site; and obtain any approvals required (landlord, body corporate, permits). If access is not available or the site is unsafe, we may reschedule and a return visit fee may apply.

7. INSTALLATION AND COSMETIC LIMITS. Installation involves drilling and fixings and may cause minor marks to surfaces. Unless agreed in writing, we do not repaint or refinish surfaces. If we cause damage due to our negligence, we will take reasonable steps to rectify it.

8. ELECTRICAL WORK. Electrical work will be completed by a licensed electrician we organise. A Certificate of Electrical Safety will be provided for all electrical work completed.

9. OWNERSHIP AND RISK. All Goods remain our property until full payment is received and cleared. Risk passes to you once installed. If payment remains unpaid, you agree to provide reasonable access for us to recover unpaid Goods.

10. CANCELLATIONS. Before Work starts: we may retain or charge an amount reflecting reasonable costs incurred. After Work starts: you are responsible for all reasonable costs including materials ordered or custom-prepared and labour already performed. Refunds will be reduced by these costs except where required by law.

11. AUSTRALIAN CONSUMER LAW. Our Goods and Services come with consumer guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these Terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

12. WARRANTY — RESIDENTIAL USE. Aluminium roller shutters (including window roller shutters): 10 years on shutter profile slats. Electric motors: 5 years (SM tubular motor) or 7 years (Elero motor, where fitted). Electronic components including receivers, remotes, wall switches, and WiFi control units: 1 year. Polycarbonate Roller Shutter: 3 years on shutter profile slats and electrical motors. Alfresco Roller Shutter: 5 years on shutter profile slats and electrical motors. Manual winders, stainless steel cables, bearings, brackets, axles, pelmets, and other parts: 1 year. Roof shutter applications or shutters installed at less than 70 degrees pitch: 1 year. Workmanship and electrical workmanship/parts supplied by us: 1 year. Commercial goods, services, and repair jobs: 1 year unless stated otherwise in writing. All warranty periods start from the installation date.

13. WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS. Warranty does not apply to issues caused by: relocation of the shutter; unauthorised modifications or repairs; use of non-genuine parts; misuse, neglect, or lack of maintenance; continued use while a fault is present; power surges, vandalism, impact, storms, floods, bushfires, lightning, salt exposure, chemicals, extreme weather, or animal interference; or normal wear and tear and cosmetic ageing.

14. WARRANTY CLAIMS. Submit claims by email within the warranty period, including your name, address, installation date, photos/video where possible, and description of the issue. We may schedule an inspection. If covered, we will repair or replace the defective component. If not covered, we will advise paid repair options.

15. REPAIRS AND CALL-OUT FEES. Standard call-out fee: $165 within 30 km. Additional travel charges apply beyond 30 km. A call-out fee applies when the workmanship warranty has expired or where the issue is not caused by us. For shutters not installed by us, the call-out fee is waived if you proceed with the paid repair recommended at that visit. After-hours/weekend/public holiday call-out fee starts at $495 within 30 km. Labour and parts for non-warranty repairs are charged separately. No paid work proceeds without your approval. If you decline repairs after attendance, the call-out fee remains payable.

16. URGENT REPAIRS. We will schedule repairs as soon as reasonably possible. Urgent or after-hours attendance may be available at higher rates as set out above.

17. WARRANTY TRANSFERABILITY. Warranties apply to the original purchaser and original installation site. Any transfer requires our written approval.

18. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY. Nothing excludes consumer guarantees under Australian Consumer Law. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Where permitted by law, our liability is limited to supplying the services again or paying the cost of having the services supplied again.

19. CHANGES TO TERMS. Any updated Terms apply to future quotes and orders. The Terms that apply to your job are those in place when you accept your quote, unless both parties agree in writing to a change.

20. GOVERNING LAW. These Terms are governed by the laws of Victoria, Australia. Disputes will be handled in the courts of Victoria.
